Gary Yong is a Malaysia- born international director who has lived and worked in Singapore, Canada, the US, Thailand, and is now based in Shanghai, China. Utilizing his diverse cultural references and perspective, he specializes in creating short branded content with a globalized eye, but with an innate instinct for what remains emotionally relevant in a sprawling, hybrid digital age.

He received his BA (Hons) with a Board of Governor's Medal from the University of Windsor, Canada, and has studied in the graduate MFA Film program at Temple University, Philadelphia, where he has also taught in the undergraduate department of Film. In 2010 he left the US, sponsored by the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand to shoot a short film portraying a slice of Thai culture, its people, and their relationship to their King, H.M. Bhumibol Adulyadej. The resulting work, "Canopy Crossings" has screened worldwide at more than 20 international film festivals and is represented for distribution by Objectifs Films in Singapore.

At the 30th Uppsala International Short Film Festival in Sweden, he was one of 10 international directors nominated for the Uppsala Award in the Memory of Ingmar Bergman, presented to a young and promising filmmaker who pushes the boundaries of film art.

In 2012 he was selected to participate in the Berlinale Talents, a prestigious creative summit for up-and-coming film talents from around the world at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival. His project "Take Me with You" was also picked for a personal mentoring with Alex Rodriguez, the Oscar-nominated editor of films like "Children of Men" and "Y Tu Mamá También".
